Maine Wild Trout Streams |

Maine is a massive state with thousands of small brook trout streams. In the map below, the magenta-gray areas show the approximate extent of wild brook trout distribution, adapted from a map published by the Maine Aquatic Biodiversity Project.
Source: Base Map -
NationalAtlas.gov / Brook Trout Distribution - Maine Aquatic
Biodiversity Project The red icons show 55 of the 57 wild trout streams listed this year on the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department's (IFWD) web site (I couldn't locate the other two.) Clicking an icon brings up a topographic map of the stream and surrounding areas (typically 1:100,000 or 1:50,000). There is at least one point marked on each image that provides you with a decimal longitude/latitude. The resolution of these maps is higher that it appears in the browser. Right click on the image and save it on your computer so you can view it in a photo viewer. We've provided a clickable list of the streams by region here. You can find the original IFWD list here: http://www.state.me.us/ifw/fishing/opportunities/index.html It provides some comments about access and the fish in each stream, so it may be worth checking their listing as well as the one here. We note that virtually all of the IFWD streams are
located within or immediately adjacent to the magenta areas mapped by
the MABP. |
