The Little Kern Golden closely resembles the California Golden (aka "Volcano Creek Golden") except that it has many more spots over the back and onto the head. Like the California Golden, it has a red stripe and dark purple parr marks along the lateral line. The body is a more subdued golden yellow with a copper or brassy back, and the belly exhibits orange splotches. White tips exist on the pelvic, anal, and dorsal fins. Just in front of the tail, the spots are larger and rounded.
