NC County Maps

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission produces an excellent series of county maps that clearly show wild trout water. This is basically the same data as you can dowload for Google Earth as "NCWRC Listed WTW", though the maps have been updated in 2010 while the dataset was created in 1998 (this is not as bad as it sounds: these listings don't change very much).  Even if you use the Google Earth data (recommended), you'll want to look up a specific stream segment you intend to visit on the county map to check its status as a listed stream.  The maps also show public land boundaries fairly clearly, which you may struggle to reproduce in GE.

As links have a tendency to go dead after a while, we've reproduced the entire Map series, current as of December, 2010.  You may want to check the NCWRC website to see if they've been updated.  Click on the county of interest in the map below, to download an individual county map, or click on the link "Download Zip File: All NC Counties" in the NC Resources Menu in the sidebar to download them all at once.

These maps need to be used with more detailed resources in order to actually find the streams and figure out how to access them.  The National Map provides a useful viewer.  As well, you can set up a workspace in Google Earth, with the NC Listed WTW data (recommended), which will greatly facilitate finding these streams.
