Streams Overview

WildTroutStreams.com provides resources for finding wild trout streams in the lower-48 states. State-specific data is published under this "Streams" tab, while "Native Trout" data, which tends to be regional, is being published under the "Natives" tab.  We started focused on the states in the Eastern US, so you'll find more in-depth data there, for now.

All data is from public-domain sources (though some is pretty obscure).  We add value by converting stream data which is available only in professional formats such as GIS and relational database files into forms fishermen and women can readily use (such as KML files for use in Google Earth).  We also pluck interesting, public-domain documents about wild trout streams from the bowels of obscure websites and make them readily accessible here.  A red dot on the map indicates we provide data for trout streams in that state.  In most states we have both state-level datasets and "native" datasets that describe species that live in those states (brook trout in the east, and a variety of species out west - see the "Natives" tab).

Trout Unlimited CSI. Lighter green areas indicate approximate wild trout historic range.

Within our coverage area, we provide web pages that describe the resources we offer, or you can just cut directly to the download system to get the files and documents as quickly as possible.

Information varies a great deal from state to state, but generally you'll be able to see and download KML and KMZ files that you can view using programs like Google Earth to find wild trout streams, and PDFs of documents we think you might find useful.

Join our email list to get informed about new data coming available.  We send out a newsletter 4-6 times a years and do not share our email list with anyone else.
