Maine Wild Trout Streams

Maine is a massive state with thousands of wild trout streams, and some of the best quality brook trout habitat in the United States.  Outside of the urban/suburban sprawl in the southwestern part of the state, if you cross a small stream in Maine, there's a pretty good chance it will hold at least some brookies.

The photo shows icons for 55 of the 57 wild trout streams first listed in 2006 on the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department's (IFWD) web site overlaid  on brook trout habitat data published by the EBTJV and displayed in Google Earth.  You can see a larger version of the photo by clicking on the picture.  You can download from this website all of the information needed to recreate this image on your own Google Earth installation.

You can also click on an interactive map to zoom in on the markers in Google Maps.  Just click on the "ME Interactive Map" link in the ME Resources menu in the sidebar.  From the 2006 version of this site, we've kept the original "List page", which provides a list of the 55 streams, and text links to jpg files of USGS topo maps.  Click on "ME WTS - List" in the Me Resources menu in the sidebar.
