Virginia Wild Trout Streams
Recently, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) joined the more enlightened states in publishing good quality GIS information on wild trout. Combined with the EBJTV basin information, it is now possible to create a wonderfully useful "workstation" for finding wild trout, free, on one's home computer.

The photo above shows the EBJTV brooktrout habitat data overlaid on data from the VDGIF which shows brook trout (green), rainbow trout (pink), or brown trout (brown) presence on Class I-IV wild trout streams. Other layers of the same dataset allows you to map these same streams by class.
On the "VA Resources" menu, you can find links to web pages that describe the species and stream-class data in more detail, along with links to download this data to set up your own workstation. The "VA Quickstart Tutorial" explains how, designed for folks who know how to use Google Earth. Persons who are not experienced Google Earth users may want to download and work through a detailed tutorial on setting up Google Earth which can be found on any of the GIS Tools pages.
Also, note the links to pages describing Shenandoah National Park, which is a logical stopping point for many wild trout fisherman in VA. On those pages, originally created for the 2006 site, you'll find road maps and links to topo maps of the major drainages.
