Virginia wild trout are found almost exclusively in the Appalachian Highlands (shown in pink).  Shenandoah National Park is shown in red. A few other streams outside of the highlands area also support trout, marked in orange.  Click on the highlands area of interest to bring up a detailed stream map. There are two maps, one covering the northern area, the other the southern area.  These are big, approximately 6MB.  Be sure you view them at appropriate magnification (100-125%, depending on your screen)  If you want to find the orange streams, you'll need to reproduce the GIS mapping DB yourself (instructions below).

These maps were generated using the Southern Appalachian Assessment GIS Database (SAAGIS).

The 8 digit numbers on the map provide the standard HUC coding for basins, which is also used in the NHD database.  This makes it easy to generate high quality road maps using The National Map, simply by zooming directly to the basin code (See GIS Tools - Topo Map/National Map).  Just remember to add a leading 0 to the basin value on the map when selecting a basin on the NHD system.
