Virginia Trout Streams by Species
Recently, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) joined the more enlightened states in publishing good quality GIS information on wild trout. Trout streams that support natural trout reproduction have descriptive data which describes the species which can be found there. Surprisingly, most of the streams support brook trout (green). Rainbow (pink) are the next most common and, along with Brown trout (brown), extend the range a bit lower into the foothills. Some streams support two or three species.
